Summer is just around the corner and as you plan for your choir summer camps, it is essential to get rid of some of the most common misconceptions. As you are just considering summer options for your kids and family, you have come across a few misconceptions about summer camps. We have gathered up some common misconceptions so that you can send your kids to a summer camp and allow them to build their self-esteem, try new things and even join a new community of mentors and friends.

Summer camp is not for everyone

There are a lot of types of summer camps across the world for just every type of activity one can think of. There is a wide range of activities for kids of different interests. Whether it is sports, arts and crafts, waterfront activities, or music, there are areas for everyone to grow and excel. The flexible programs allow campers to enjoy their favorite activities and open the door to trying out new things in summer.

Summer camps are not educational

This is not true because while it is not a formal learning situation, there are a lot of things that are educational at these choral concerts and camps. Whilst children are not sitting in the classroom learning, they are still learning important and useful life skills during their time at summer camps. Campers are always learning social, physical and leadership skills throughout their summer camp.

Children sleep in tents without running water and electricity

Some people believe this is what happens at summer camps but this is not the case. Whilst a lot of campers go on actual camping during the summer, when they are at choral camps, they live in cabins and nice places. They have electricity and running water and no child is put in harm’s way. It is not a luxury place but the children are comfortable and have a lot of fun.

My kid will not survive without electronics

Your child will not just survive, he or she will also enjoy the entire camp. A summer camp is beneficial to children. Without digital distractions, children are busy diving into their activities that they do not even miss their digital devices.

Homesick children will ruin it for everyone

This is doubtful because it is their first time away from their parents and home for a long time and your child may experience short-term homesickness. It is common for children to be homesick. All it means is that they miss their parents and loved ones and feel extremely safe at home and in their usual surroundings. After a few days, your child will be used to the new routine and he will be enjoying life with other children. They will be having a great time and some will wish to stay longer when the time comes to go home.

Now that you know the above misconceptions, it is time to start preparing your child for the next choir summer camp and ensure they have a nice time.
